Communion at UCC is shared at an open table, available to all. It is Christ who is the host and we are merely the facilitators of this holy, welcome-to-all meal. We want you to know that we take utmost care to prepare the elements so as many of you as possible can partake. In the kitchen, we practice good hygiene and prepare all the gluten-free (rice crackers) elements first, cover, and set them aside before preparing the bread. The rice crackers are also free of corn products, to avoid any corn allergies. We use 100% concord grape juice for the cup portion of Communion. Communion servers apply unscented hand sanitizer or don gloves before handling any of the bread, or crackers. We invite those with gluten sensitivity to select their own cracker from the proffered plate, so we avoid cross-contamination with the bread. We hope this will help both clarify and ease any concerns you may have. If you have further questions, please contact the office and they will put you in touch with a member of the Worship and Spiritual Life team.
